So on January 1st I went to explore Scot:lands a free event organised by Edinburgh’s Hogmanay to celebrate Scottish culture. It starts PHEW ! at 1pm so gives revellers time to recover. For me get a large mug of coffee and brunch before setting out to my first venue Grayfriars Kirk. The great thing about the programme is it gives both locals and visitors a way into exploring Edinburgh on an entirely different basis. At the start at the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers St each registered participant goes to a roulette wheel which is spinned to decide which venue you start at. And after visiting each venue you spin again to find your next destination. For me this meant the delight of finding some locally made art just outside Grayfriars (even the crafters of Edinburgh celebrate Hogmanay in their own inimitable way!) and this memorial to the great architect Robert Adam inside. Grayfriars had a wee cafe run by the congregation, live singing and a film being shown of Scottish filmmaker/artist Chris Dooks.
