Once you’ve had a breakfast and a bucket of coffee to recover from the night before I suggest you stagger towards the Scottish National Gallery of Art. Opens 12pm to 5pm on the 1st of January. Reputedly the best small collection in the world. I recommend making straight to see Callum. Callum was a dog owned by James Cowan Smith who promised a bequest of £55,000 in 1919 with two conditions. The first that the gallery look after his dog Fury and the second that the portrait of his previous dog Callum a Dandy Dinmont be shown in perpetuity. Also open today are the Turner Collection which are only shown in the month of January so the queues might be quite long for that.
