knitting the revolution

I was at Summerhall during the festival. I love the work of Ian Hamilton Finlay and with two friends we found the room with his work in it. Summerhall is not like other galleries. We walked around with our drinks from the bar and to my surprise when I asked the gallery assistant if I could take a photograph of the above works she was fine about it. It’s rare to have a mention of knitting in fine art. The fictitious Madam Defarge is one of the few points when knitting gets a look in.

Yesterday I was surprised by something else some politically motivated yarnbombing in Edinburgh on Princes St. I took some photographs and sent them to the Evening News and hopefully they will be covering this unusual event ( I say unusual as mostly yarnbombing is a matter of covering up items in the public space rather than publicly commentating as it is here.)
